Did you make it to the Guest of a Guest/Curbed Hamptons Endless Summer party on Saturday night? Unfortunately I was in the city hosting a screening of Srugim (a show about modern Orthodox love, “the most talked-about series on Israeli TV!”) but I genuinely love (seriously, no joking) when Lock goes all Paisley Underground, even though his idea of Steve Wynn is this when mine is that. I’d like to imagine Game Theory’s “Beach State Rocking” playing in the background here but it was probably the new Cee Lo song.

I just read Elizabeth Gilbert’s The Last American Man yesterday. An easy to read biography of Eustace Conway and his determination to become a true “American Man” in a country that no longer has a use for men with hammers, knives, and pioneer-like savviness.

Floored. Completely. Sure I was expecting a good script and performance but I wasn’t expecting the visual assault that lays ahead. Damn.

This actually does look pretty damned good. Aaron Sorkin’s involved, and I hope it’s more like the first few seasons of The West Wing or the entire run of Sports Night and A Few Good Men and The American President and less like Studio 60 or whatever that short-lived series was called.

Okay, so this looks pretty great.

Repeat After Me: You Can't Afford Free:

I can’t afford “free.” The minute someone comps your meal, or sends you a gift, or whatever it may be, (for no reason whatsoever) is the minute I feel like I owe them a favor in return. It’s incredibly frustrating. I won’t get into the nitty gritty of the specific freebies I’m still paying for in one way or another (usually my time), but I will say that I was super excited to read Billy’s post today that, in so many words, conveyed this same concept for nyc events.
