So this is pretty funny. And spot on. Can’t believe the things that I think are HUGE deals sometimes. I frequently think back to a conversation I had with my dad last summer (after asking him to tell me what it’s like getting old). I will never forget what he said about dying (a topic I discuss frequently with people——I like getting people’s thoughts about what they think happens when they die, I’m interesting freakish like that). When pondering life’s big questions, dad’s are a good starting point. Convo went something like this:
Me: “Yeah but doesn’t it get weird to wake up and be like an old man? Like don’t you wish you were in your 20s again ever? Or that your kids were young again?”
Dad: “You know, the older I get, the more it makes sense to me. Everything happens in exactly the right time. I would never want to live forever.”
Then last weekend:
Me: “Happy Birthday! do you feel older?” (His birthday was May, 2nd)
Dad: “Well, the more I live, the more I realize how much I’m going to miss this life. I just don’t want to see it go.”
He had just built a ginormous sandbox for his 3 nephews to ponder life’s tough questions in.
So, basically, we all are going to die, this is meant to happen and it is one of the beautiful things about life. Also, we are blessed to be alive and it is very sad to think of not existing. We wish we could hold on to moments FOREVER. Argh back at square one….
